Default Unanswered: Do you charge for travel time?

I have a new client I'm doing a rather large job for that will last until the end of the year, and possibly into 2013. Their offices are a little over an hour away. This is the first client I've had that is so far away; what's the consensus on charging for travel time when I have to go to their office for meetings? My inclination is to charge my normal hourly rate (which is how I'm billing the whole job). Thoughts? How do you handle?

i really dont know, i think its up to how much they are willing to pay in the end, if you are satisfied than perhaps let it go, but if you are really bothered by it, and willing to risk potential disagreement than you should add the charge

A little careful research allows you to know what you have and what you might need if the price is cost-effective. Then you need only choose what supplemental security you might consider purchasing. Set a cost-effective dollar limit within which security is practical and stick to it.

I have a new client for whom I am doing a job that will last till the end of the year or may also extend to 2013. To reach their office it will take more than an hour.

Are you driving? In the US the federal rate is now .55 cents per mile. http://www.irs.gov/uac/IRS-Announces...-Mileage-Rates

When I drive to my client's office, I charge .55 cents a mile plus my hourly rate. If I take the train, I charge the hourly rate only. My time is valuable, just like my skills. And if I'm spending my time getting to a client, it's time I'm not using to do work for other clients.

Either way, you might want to have this conversation with your client before you invoice them. If you guys aren't on the same page about this you could lose trust and credibility, which could equal less work in the future.

Hope this helps...
